Some of the heaviest parts of motherhood are invisible.
The remembering. The planning. The noticing. The anticipating. The emotional holding.
It is not just the tasks themselves. It is the constant background thinking.
Do we have nappies? When is the next appointment? What needs washing? Which message needs a reply? What are we eating tomorrow? Is everyone okay? Am I doing enough?
This invisible load can make mothers feel exhausted even when they have not done anything that looks obviously tiring. It can make rest feel difficult — because even when your body stops, your mind may keep going.
Mindfulness can’t lift the load, but it can help you notice it.
Mindfulness cannot remove every responsibility. But it can help you notice when your mind is overloaded. It can help you pause before the spiral deepens.
It can help you ask:
- What is mine to carry right now?
- What can wait?
- What support do I need?
- Can I soften, even slightly?
You do not need to earn rest by reaching complete exhaustion.
You are allowed to pause before you break.
If you are carrying a lot, Akilah Wellbeing offers mindfulness and emotional wellbeing support for overwhelmed mothers in Greenwich and South East London.
